Basics of artificial intelligence and machine learning for every trainee?

This was an interesting perspective: What Should Radiology Residency and Fellowship Training in Artificial Intelligence Include? A Trainee’s Perspective—Radiology In Training. Just some take from the commentary:

Trainees should be introduced to the basic concepts of data collection, annotation, and algorithm validation. AI and ML are here to stay. Hence it is important that these topics are covered in the training.

I think that if we do not excel in the traditional statistics and research methodology, it is too early to implement AI and ML education in the training. Of course there should be some introduction to these topic but most importantly this education should be built on the basic concepts in statistics and research methodology. How could we learn the advanced methods if we are lost the basics?
